As a valued member of the higher education community, California College Pathways and our community partners would like to invite you to participate in a free professional development training entitled, “University Blues: Mental Health Needs of Foster Youth in Higher Education” on strategies to assist former foster youth with accessing mental health services. This training is open to college campus support faculty and staff working with students from foster care in higher education. The one day training will focus on:
* The range of complex mental health issues and symptoms that students from foster care can experience in their transition to higher education
* Practical application for working with youth within the university and community college setting * Professional and paraprofessional intervention strategies for working with youth
* Relevant research, DSM IV-TR diagnostic criteria and theoretical principles related to mental health issues of former foster youth
Featured Speaker: Dr. Greg Manning Dr. Manning is a licensed clinical psychologist and is a member of the American Psychological Association. He consults and trains professionals of multiple specialties regarding their work with children and families both in the community and within the foster care system. He provides professional training on a wide range of topics including coping with grief and loss, dealing with oppositional defiant behavior, engaging transitional age youth in the mental health system, seeking and maintaining permanency for youth in foster care, and developing and sustaining collaborative teams.
