This training is open to those who use mental health and substance abuse services through San Francisco Community Behavioral Health Services (CBHS), who are receiving SSI and/or SSDI, and who are working or considering going back to work. In collaboration with the Independent Living Resource Center of San Francisco, this training will cover how earning income impacts SSI and/or SSDI benefits.

5. Financial Literacy Forum on Monday, October 29
The Federation of Community Development Credit Unions is holding a half-day Financial Literacy Forum on Oct. 29 at the Federal Reserve in San Francisco from 9am to 1pm. Continental Breakfast and Lunch Provided by the Federal Reserve.

The YOUTH Training Project has the amazing opportunity to hold another Digital Storytelling Workshop! The dates for this workshop are set for January 10-13, 2008.
The topic(s) for this workshop are Higher Education and Juvenile Justice - so if you know anyone who may have a compelling story that would be interested in this opportunity please pass the attached application on to them.
However, if you have someone in mind that you want to recommend but they don’t have higher education or juvenile justice experience you can still pass this opportunity on to them – as long as they have a compelling story that child welfare can benefit from - we’d like to hear from them!

The Cal State University application deadline is fast approaching and we need your help in getting the word out to ambitious former foster youth about opportunities to attend Cal Poly Pomona as a Renaissance Scholar. The CSU application period is open from October 1 – November 30 and the online application is at www.csumentor.org . If you know of any graduating high school senior or community college students who are ready to transfer to a Cal State, please share this information with them.

Are you interested in Empowerment and Leadership Development for Current and Former Foster Youth? California Youth Connection (CYC) is looking for current and former foster youth to join their San Francisco chapter. CYC is a youth-led organization working to improve the foster care system through policy change. CYC Members are 14-24 year old current and former foster youth fighting to improve the system on the state and local level.

10. New Juma Video and Opportunities

Click here for their new applications. Interviews will be scheduled on a rolling basis and ONLY upon turning in a COMPLETE application between now and December 15, 2007. Interviews are held every 2 weeks so youth can expect to get an interview if they meet all qualifying criteria on the application.
Juma will be hosting ongoing orientations at Balboa, Burton, Leadership,Galileo, Mission, Lowell and Thurgood Marshall high schools and at ILSP. Youth are encouraged to turn in their applications after attending an orientation to their school's wellness center or directly to Juma.
Other interested community based organizations and youth employment partners are welcome to contact us to set up an orientation at your site.

11. FOSTERING ART IS SEEKING STUDENTS!!! and..they’ve made some changes!
*Fostering Art (FA) teaches digital photography to young adults (currently or formerly in foster care), ages 16+ who live in the Bay Area. They also use creative writing with photography in order to give our students a voice and let the larger community hear their stories.
*FA meets Mondays and Tuesdays, 4-8 pm. October 15, 16, 22, and 23 they will meet at SomArts at 8th and Brannen in San Francisco. All classes after that will be at 18th and Potrero in San Francisco. Students are asked to come to one class per week.
*FA provides students with ALL equipment needed for the class. This includes: a camera, paper, computer lab access, and two photography teachers.
*They have visiting artists, field trips, and an exciting end-of-the-year exhibition which allows students a chance to show their work.
They will work with students to help cover transportation costs. They share a dinner together at the end of class. They create a community that inspires growth and exploration, and the result is confidence, knowledge of photography, and
lasting friendships.
