If Assembly Bill 194 (AB 194), a bill introduced by Assembly Member Jim Beall (D-San Jose), passes it would give the estimated 2,000 current and former foster youth attending community colleges priority enrollment in classes each semester.
Assembly member Beall introduced the bill after more than 600 youth, advocates and professionals attending the 2011 Foster Youth Education Summit: From Cradle to College to Career testified to the legislature about the importance of education for foster youth on Tuesday.
